The FSA 60 R is a lightweight but powerful cordless grass trimmer in the STIHL AK System of battery tools.

It makes it easy to trim lawn edges, or around trees and other obstacles in no time using an AutoCut C 6-2 mowing head with nylon line, although the mowing head can be changed easily without tools too.

It has an aluminium shaft, an easy-to-use operating handle and a loop handle on the shaft which can be moved up or down the shaft to make controlling the grass trimmer a breeze. It also comes with a metal spacer bracket, which can be folded down to help avoid damage to trees or obstacles.

With the recommended AK 20 battery, you get up to 30 minutes of working time, but you can also swap to the PolyCut 6-2 mowing head which uses our polymer cutting blades and gives a longer working time of up to 40 minutes, or a DuroCut 5-2 mowing head which uses serrated line pieces and is ideal for trimming denser grass or even light scrub (the PolyCut 6-2 and DuroCut 5-2 are not supplied with the machine but are both available as additional accessories).

The FSA 60 R is quiet in use so there's no need to wear ear defenders and the batteries are interchangeable with all of the other tools in the AK System too, including chainsaws, hedge trimmers, lawn mowers, blowers and a scarifier.

  • Run time on recommended AK 20 battery: Up to 30 minutes with nylon mowing head
  • Run time on AK 30 battery: Up to 38 minutes with nylon mowing head

Features

Energy efficient brushless EC motor Energy efficient brushless EC motor

The STIHL EC motor is energy efficient and practically maintenance free, delivering the right power just when you need it.

Adjustable loop handle Adjustable loop handle

The sturdy loop handle makes using the FSA 60 R easy and it can also be adjusted to suit your height, without tools.

Spacer bracket Spacer bracket

The metal spacer bracket means you can trim precisely around trees, plants and other objects without damaging them. It can also be folded up when it isn't needed.

Safe battery locking position Safe battery locking position

There are two positions for the battery - in the first neutral position, the battery is secured in the grass trimmer but is not connected to the contacts, so you can carry the battery around easily without the risk of the trimmer starting accidentally. Once you push the battery in fully, you can easily start the tool.

Charge level indicator on the battery Charge level indicator on the battery

So you know how much charge you have left, the charge level can be viewed at any time using the four LEDs on the battery.

Easy to extend the mowing line

The FSA 60 R comes with the AutoCut C 6-2 mowing head as standard which uses nylon mowing line. If the mowing line breaks off, you can just tap the head on the ground to automatically feed out more line.

FAQs

QWhat type of cutting attachment does this use?

A: Although the FSA 60 R comes supplied with the AutoCut C 6-2 mowing head, which you can buy replacement mowing line for, you can also fit the PolyCut 6-2 or the DuroCut 5-2 to this machine to suit the type of grass you are cutting. They can be swapped without using tools too.

QHow long does the battery last?

A: The recommended AK 20 battery will last up to 30 minutes or enough time to mow up to 1250 metres of lawn edges, depending on the type of grass that is being cut and how the tool is being used.

QHow long does it take to charge?

A: To fully charge an AK 20 battery using the AL 101 charger, it takes 180 minutes, or to charge it up to 80%, it takes 135 minutes.

QWhat size garden will it maintain?

A: The FSA 60 R is the ideal grass trimmer for medium to large gardens with different areas of grass to trim.

QWhat battery does it use?

A: The tool is powered by an interchangeable 36V Lithium-Ion battery.

QAre the batteries interchangeable?

A: Yes, all of the tools in the AK System use the same style of battery. There are three different batteries in the range, which all have different capacities. For the FSA 60 R, we recommend the AK 20 battery, but you can use the AK 30 battery in this tool too. AP batteries will not fit in this tool.

Tips

#1Cleaning your FSA 60 R

When you have finished using the trimmer, remove the battery and clean using a damp cloth or soft brush.

#2Storing your FSA 60 R

Store your FSA 60 R in a clean and dry area and keep out of the reach of children at all times. Batteries should also be stored in a clean, dry place that doesn’t get too cold. You can find out more about battery storage here

#3Make the most of your mowing line

To get the most from your mowing line, simply pop it in a bucket of water for 12-24 hours before using it to make it more flexible and less likely to break.

#4Check for wildlife

Don’t forget to check your work area for wildlife before starting to use your tool. In particular, you should check for nesting birds before trimming hedges, as well as checking for other small animals such as hedgehogs before trimming long grass.
